SAP EWM implementation at Agrifirm: how 4SCM transformed their warehouse in less than 6 months

Migrate five warehouses to SAP EWM within six months, with full batch tracking according to CDG rules? That was the assignment Agrifirm gave to 4SCM. And that assignment was delivered without disruption or defects. How we managed that together? You can read that in the customer case below.

The challenge

Agrifirm is a knowledge partner for livestock farmers and suppliers of high-quality products such as animal feeds. Due to changing laws and regulations, including the CDG directive, the need arose to make product batches fully traceable. For this, the warehouse management system had to be overhauled. And quickly, too.

For Agrifirm, this was the first time SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) had been deployed. And although it involved five relatively small warehouses, the complexity was high:

  • The timeline was tight: six months before full go live

  • CDG compliance requirements were stringent

  • The solution had to be both scalable and flexible

A streamlined approach without noise was crucial.

The approach

4SCM was engaged for the implementation of SAP EWM. Together with the IT and business departments of Agrifirm we chose a lean approach, fully in line with SAP standards. By working with one team from day one towards one goal, the project stayed tightly within scope.

Key choices in approach:

  • Integration with SAP TM via Advanced Shipping & Receiving (ASR)
This created a seamless link between warehouse and transportation.

  • Use of GS1 Data Matrix scanning
For optimal batch traceability and error-free product recognition.

  • Enhanced RF framework within EWM
    For user-friendly, efficient warehouse processes.

  • Lean design customized
Only the functionality needed for these warehouses was activated - nothing more, nothing less.

The result

Within six months, all five warehouses were live with SAP EWM. With no disruptions, no outages, and fully compliant with CDG regulations. The warehouse staff could immediately benefit from user-friendly processes and clear traceability.

What makes the project extra special?
SAP EWM is often associated with large, complex warehouses. But this case proves that the system also works excellently in smaller environments - provided you implement smart and lean.

Quote from Thomas, one of 4SCM's four managing partners:

"Think of SAP EWM as a toolbox. Whether you have a small or large warehouse: you only use the tools you really need. That's how you keep the system clear and powerful."

On to the next challenge

Thanks to Agrifirm for the trust and fine cooperation. And to the project team - led by Marc - for sharp project management. On to the next project!
