SAP announces new way of SAP certification
SAP is shaking things up! As AI and automation reshape how businesses operate, SAP is transforming its certification program to match. Starting 25 November 2025, SAP will not only test the learner’s memorized knowledge but also focus on real cases to test your problem-solving abilities.
At 4SCM, we see this as an exciting step forward. So, let’s dive in together to see how this new format can affect you as individual supply chain professional, or (consulting) company like us.
What does SAP certification mean to us?
Because of the many different services we offer, all of our consultants are SAP certified. However, we believe that being SAP-certified, represents far more than just passing an exam. It is a globally recognized validation of your SAP expertise: demonstrating that you have the knowledge to work confidently with SAP solutions. Certification ensures professionals stay aligned with the latest industry innovations, capabilities, and cloud developments. As a company, it reinforces trust and capability. For us as consulting individuals, it strengthens credibility, accelerates career opportunities, and positions you as a valuable contributor on SAP projects.
Simply said: your SAP Certification is a signal to either partners, employers, and/or customers, that you are prepared to deliver results in an ever-evolving digital world. For 4SCM specifically, it means that we are able to deliver logistics with impact.
The old format versus the new way of getting certified
For years, SAP certification exams followed a traditional, knowledge-based testing approach. This meant remote learning, think timed and multiple-choice questions: memorizing product details rather than applying them in real situations. While this method validated that professionals knew SAP concepts, it didn’t always prove they could apply those concepts in real projects.
The newly reimagined SAP Certification format changes that. Instead of relying purely on multiple-choice recall, it introduces performance-based assessments designed to mirror real-world tasks and processes inside SAP systems. Candidates are tested on their ability to navigate, configure, troubleshoot, and deliver practical outcomes: the same skills they’ll use on the job. This shift prioritizes mastery over memorization, ensuring that certified professionals not only understand SAP technology but can confidently use it to drive business results. We like to keep things clear and easy for you to understand. So, here’s the most important bullet points for you to save for later.
The new format of SAP certification:
-
- Hands-on tasks directly inside SAP systems
-
- Scenario-based assessments that mirror real job challenges
-
- Continuous certification, aligned with cloud updates
-
- Flexible, self-paced learning with digital accessibility
- Skills and confidence that translate immediately into better performance at work
New format, new assessments
In addition to testing what you know, SAP also wants to teach you how to apply this knowledge in practical solutions. The practical certification exams assess your ability to apply knowledge in realistic cases.
They focus on testing your practical and problem-solving skills through two main types of assessments:
-
- System-based assessment: you perform specific tasks within a simulated SAP system under time constraints, demonstrating your ability to complete operational activities.
- Scenario-based assessment: you take part in timed role-play exercises with an AI avatar, where you present SAP solutions, provide architectural advice, and carry out simulated business scenarios.
Long story short, these exams measure how effectively you can use SAP tools and knowledge in realistic, hands-on situations.
The impact for users with an existing SAP certification
If you’re already SAP certified, you might be wondering if you need to take the exam again with SAP’s new certification program. Good news! We can take away most of your worries, because taking the exam again is not necesarry.
SAP’s focus now is on staying current, rather than constantly retaking full exams. The easiest way to do this is with an SAP Learning Hub subscription, which gives you access to self-paced content, webinars, and the new short “stay certified” assessments.
If you don’t subscribe, you can still maintain your certification, but you may need to retake the full exam when it expires. Check your ‘My Learning’-dashboard in the redesigned Learning Hub to see your status and recommended next steps. Bottom line: your certification is still valid, and with Learning Hub, staying certified is easy and stress-free.
4SCM's vision for the new SAP certification
We do believe that this format allows us as a company but also their users, be more trustworthy. At 4SCM, we’ve always believed in hands-on, practice-based learning. While anyone can technically “cram” a certification using PDFs or AI, real expertise comes from applying knowledge in live projects. That’s why our employees are being brought into existing projects from day one, letting them learn from real cases and the experience of others. And that’s also why we introduced our very own S/4HANA demobox.
Delivering logistics with impact
The new SAP certification aligns perfectly with our philosophy: testing real-world skills, encouraging continuous learning, and ensuring professionals are ready to deliver results. So yes! We’re excited for this change, and we see it as an opportunity to make SAP-certified professionals more skilled, more credible, and more prepared than ever before. Want to know more?
